Please follow these instructions in the exact order listed below to update the firmware and software for the RA-7 Series Mercury Analyzers. If at any time there are unforeseen errors or questions, please contact our technical support department at
support@agssci.com.
FIRMWARE UPDATES
1) Connect the power cords for the RA-7 (detector) and SANPRA (autosampler), and power both modules ON.
2) Open the RA7000AWin software.
3) Click [Firmware Update] on the “Maintenance” tab.
4) Select the SANPRA to update its firmware.
5) The Firmware Update screen will appear. Click "Open" in the lower left corner.
6) Select the firmware file for the SANPRA (autosampler) that was provided for this update. The file will look similar to "SANPRA_Ver***.mot".
7) When "File Load Success" is displayed in the Firmware Update Screen, click [START]. If an error is displayed, repeat this procedure starting with Step 4. Try at least 4 times if the error persists.
NOTE: If the error persists after at least 4 tries, then proceed to the section "If Upgrading Fails" at the end of these instructions.
When the update proceeds, it will show a green status bar moving left to right at the bottom of the Firmware Update Screen. The SANPRA firmware update may take a few minutes to complete. Please do not power off the PC or the RA-7 modules during this process.
8) When the firmware update for the SANPRA (autosampler) is complete, click [OK].
9) Power OFF both the RA-7 and SANPRA modules, then power both modules back ON again.
10) Click [Firmware Update] on the “Maintenance” tab.
11) Click the RA-7000 module to update its firmware.
12) Repeat Steps 5 through 9 to update the RA-7000 detector module firmware. Make sure to select the appropriate firmware file that was provided for this update. The file will look similar to "RA7_Ver***.mot".
13) With both modules updated, please proceed to the software update in the next step, if provided.
SOFTWARE UPDATES
1) Make sure that any RA-7 (detector) and SANPRA (autosampler) firmware updates have been completed before attempting to update the software.
2) Type "Add" in the Windows search bar, and then select "Add or Remove Programs".
3) Type "RA7" in the Installed Apps search box.
4) Click the three dots "..." to the right of the RA7000Win software listing, and then click "Uninstall". Removing the current software will not cause you to lose any data or settings.
5) Open the "RA7000WinSetup.msi" file that was provided for this update. The setup wizard will start.
6) Click [NEXT] to begin the installation.
7) Select a folder for the installation of the software. The default location that is displayed is preferred.
8) Select "Just Me", and then click [NEXT] two more times to start and complete the software installation.
NOTE: A User Account Control screen may be displayed. Click [YES] to proceed with installation.
9) When the software has been installed successfully, click [CLOSE] to exit the setup wizard.
10) When you open the updated software, your previous settings and data will be available.
IF UPGRADING FAILS (SANPRA Module)
NOTE: Only use the instructions in this section if the firmware update fails and will not proceed.
1) Turn the power OFF to both the RA-7 (detector) and SANPRA (autosampler) modules. Disconnect both power cords from the power source.
2) Remove the two screws from the back, right of the SANPRA module.
3) Remove the three thumb screws from the bottom, front of the SANPRA module, and then remove the base cover.
4) Locate the SW2 set of four dip switches on the main board (front of SANPRA), and set the switches as indicated in the picture below (1 & 3 ON, 2 & 4 OFF):
5) Remove the USB cable from the back of the RA-7 (detector) module and connect it directly to the USB port on the main board as shown in the picture above.
6) Reconnect the power cords to both modules, and then power both the RA-7 and SANPRA modules ON.
7) The instrument will start up in BOOT mode, and the LEDs on the main board will blink.
8) Repeat Steps 10 through 12 for the FIRMWARE UPDATES section above to complete the SANPRA firmware update.
NOTE: Make certain that you select "RA7000" for the firmware update in Step 11, even though this procedure will update the SANPRA module. By using the direct USB cable to the SANPRA main board, the update must be sent via this selection.
9) When the update completes, refer to the "Returning to Normal Mode" instructions below.
IF UPGRADING FAILS (RA-7 Module)
1) Power OFF the RA-7 (detector) module and remove its power cord from the power source.
2) Remove the three screws from the back, left of the RA-7 (detector) module.
3) Remove the three screws inside the front door cover on the left, as shown in the picture below, and then remove the left side cover with the door.
4) Locate SW2 set of four dip switches on the main board inside the RA-7 module and set the switches as indicated in the picture below (1 & 3 ON, 2 & 4 OFF):
5) Reconnect the power cords to both modules, and then power both the RA-7 and SANPRA modules ON.
NOTE: Make sure the USB cable is connected to the back of the RA-7 (detector) module.
6) The instrument will start up in BOOT mode, and the LEDs on the main board will blink.
7) Repeat Steps 3 through 8 for the FIRMWARE UPDATES section above to complete the RA-7 module firmware update.
8) When the update completes, refer to the "Returning to Normal Mode" instructions below.
RETURNING TO NORMAL MODE
1) After completing either of the RA-7 or SANPRA module firmware updates in BOOT mode, return the modules to NORMAL mode using these instructions.
2) Power OFF the module that was updated and remove the power cord from the power source.
3) Return the SW2 dip switches on the main board to the NORMAL mode settings (1 & 4 OFF, 2 & 3 ON):
4) Reattach the cover panels using the screws that were removed in the updating instructions above.
5) Reconnect the power cords and USB cables, and then power ON all modules.
