RA-4 Troubleshooting Chart


Problem  Cause  Solution
There is leak Drain tank is loose Close drain tank
  Sample tube has crack Replace sample tube
  Reaction tube is loose on measurement cap Fix reaction tube
  Reagent tube is loose on measurement cap Fix reagent tube
  Fixing screws for measurement cap are loose Tighten screws
  Sampler alignment is not correct Adjust OFFSET-ARM
  Sample tube height is wrong  Replace sample tube or adjust OFFSET-LIFT
  Sealing ring is missing, broken, or dirty Wash or Replace with new sealing ring
Flow rate drop Membrane disc filters are clogged Replace membrane filters
  Air pump tube is worn out Replace air pump tube
  Air pump rotor is worn out Replace air pump rotor
  Air pump is broken Replace air pump
  Bubbler is clogged Replce bubbler
Sensitivity drop Standard solution is faulty Remake calibration solutions
  There is a leak (verify by running a leak check) Find and fix the leak
  Reaction tube is soileded Replace or wash reaction tube
  Sample tubes are dirty Replace or wash sample tubes
  SnCl2 is going bad
 Remake SnCl2  
  SnCl2 is not being added to the sample tube (the line is clogged or reagent pump has a problem)
 Replace reagent teflon tube, reagent pump tube, reagent pump rotor or reagent pump
  HONH2·HCl is not being added (the line is clogged or reagent pump has a problem)
 Replace reagent tube, reagent pump tube, reagent pump rotor or reagent pump
High blank Sample tube(s) are dirty Wash or replace sample tubes
 High Blank Correction *Stir bar was dirty
 Wash or replace stir bar
  H2SO4 has high blank Remake or Replace to new trace-metal grade H2SO4
  KMnO4 has high blank Remake new KMnO4 
  HONH2·HCl has high blank Remake new HONH2·HCl
  Reaction or Reagent tube is contaminated Replace or wash reaction and/or reagent tubing
  Internal tube/drain tank is contaminated Clean or Replace Internal tube/drain tank
  Measurement cap is contaminated Clean or Replace measurement cap
Strange peak shape / No peak There is a leak Fix leak
  Reaction tube is dirty
 Replace reaction tube
  Sample tube(s) is dirty
 Replace or wash sample tube
  SnCl2 is getting bad Recreate SnCl2
  SnCl2 is not added (the line is clogged or reagent pump has some problem) Replace reagent tube, reagent pump tube, reagent pump rotor or reagent pump
  HONH2·HCl is not added (the line is clogged or reagent pump has some problem) Replace reagent tube, reagent pump tube, reagent pump rotor or reagent pump
  V2 line is always open (tube positon is different or V2 valve is broken) Change tube positon / replace V2 valve
 * 4500 Model only *Forget to put in stirrer or stirrer motor is broken Put in stirrer/ replace stirrer motor
