Configuring the MA-3000 Software for Mercury Isotope Collection

Configuring the MA-3000 Software for Mercury Isotope Collection

WARNING
These software changes are for mercury isotope collection only and should not be used for mercury analysis by the MA-3000 Mercury Analyzer.  If you have never tried this configuration before, please contact AGS Scientific Technical Support before going further.

1)  Before making these software changes, a blank glass tube must be installed, replacing the mercury collector tube on the MA-3000.  This tube will then be plumbed out the back of the MA-3000 with Teflon tubing, terminating into a glass sparger containing your mercury isotope collection solution.  Again, if you are not familiar with making these modifications, please contact AGS Scientific Technical Support before continuing.

2)  Open the MA3Win software and wait for it to enter the Ready state (lower left corner).

3)  Click on SYSTEM near the top of the software main screen, and then click on SETUP.

4)  Click on the TEST tab at the top of the System Setup window, then enter the password (0219) and press the ENTER key on the PC keyboard.

5)  Click the drop down menu for DEBUG INFO, and then select ON to switch the software to Debug mode.

6)  Click OK to exit the Setup screen, then close and re-open the software to make sure you are in Debug mode.

7)  After the software has entered the Ready state (lower left corner), click on SYSTEM and then click CONTROL PARAMETER.

8)  Enter 0 (zero) for the time settings (green background) for all settings except the COOL setting.  Do not change the COOL setting or any of the flow rate settings (circled in red below).

9)  Click OK to save these new settings and exit the Control Parameters screen.

10)  Click SYSTEM and then click SETUP to open the System Setup screen again.

11)  Click on the TEST tab at the top of the System Setup window, then enter the password (0219) and press the ENTER key on the PC keyboard.

12)  Click the drop down menu for DEBUG INFO, and then select OFF to switch the software out of Debug mode.

13)  Click OK to exit the Setup screen, then close and re-open the software to make sure you are out of Debug mode.

14)  After the software has entered the Ready state (lower left corner), you can now run the MA-3000 for isotope collection.  In this configuration, the MA-3000 will perform your combustion methods for each sample, allowing the combusted mercury to be collected without gold amalgamation or absorbance measurements with the light source.

Returning to Normal MA-3000 Direct Mercury Analysis:

1)  When you are finished with mercury isotope collection and want to switch back to normal mercury analysis, please first make sure to power OFF the MA-3000 and allow it to fully cool down (at least 2-3 hours) prior to opening the top cover.

2)  Remove the glass tube and any other tubing that was added for mercury isotope collection, and then re-install the mercury collector tube and tee fitting to connect to the absorption cell.  Refer to the User Manual or our Combustion Tube installation videos for assistance, if needed.

3)  Once the analyzer is setup with the normal hardware configuration, you can power it ON and open the software.

4)  Open the MA3Win software, click NO to the "Check of Flow Path" window, and then wait for it to enter the Ready state (lower left corner).

5)  Click on SYSTEM near the top of the software main screen, and then click on SETUP.

6)  Click on the TEST tab at the top of the System Setup window, then enter the password (0219) and press the ENTER key on the PC keyboard.

7)  Click the drop down menu for DEBUG INFO, and then select ON to switch the software to Debug mode.

8)  Click OK to exit the Setup screen, then close and re-open the software to make sure you are in Debug mode.

9)  After the software has entered the Ready state (lower left corner), click on SYSTEM and then click CONTROL PARAMETER.

10)  Click the RESET button in this window to set all Control Parameter back to their factory conditions.

11)  Click OK to save these new settings and exit the Control Parameters screen.

12)  Click SYSTEM and then click SETUP to open the System Setup screen again.

13)  Click on the TEST tab at the top of the System Setup window, then enter the password (0219) and press the ENTER key on the PC keyboard.

14)  Click the drop down menu for DEBUG INFO, and then select OFF to switch the software out of Debug mode.

15)  Click OK to exit the Setup screen, then close and re-open the software to make sure you are out of Debug mode.

16)  After the software has entered the Ready state (lower left corner), you can now run the MA-3000 in the normal configuration for total mercury measurements.
